Catherine Borgia: Personal Statement

Catherine Borgia with Daysi Briones Tough times provide the opportunity to show our strength, our courage, and our willingness to work together. Now more than ever, Ossining needs leaders who are skilled at consensus building and creative problem solving, and have a willingness to look beyond the solutions of the past to lay the groundwork for Ossining’s bright future. I am running to serve the community in that capacity.

My goals are to save taxpayer dollars through cost containment; adopt best practices for every Town function; continue and expand sharing of municipal services among the Town of Ossining and surrounding municipalities, county, and state government; provide more effective advocacy for the greater Ossining community; and encourage economic development.

I have proven leadership skills by my work on the development of the Comprehensive Plan (adopted September 2009), economic revitalization initiatives, and communication and outreach to Ossining residents and community groups.

Since taking office in January 2009, I have worked hard for Ossining to contain costs by:

  • cutting the Town operating budget by 8% and my own salary by 10%.
  • establishing the Citizen Finance Committee to establish sound financial policies for the Town.
  • consolidating sewer districts to save costs.

I have continued my work toward sharing services that began with being a founding member of the Inter-Municipal Leadership team while a Village Trustee.  This year I have worked with the Village of Ossining and the Village of Briarcliff Manor toward consolidation on

  • sewer districts
  • local court system
  • highway and public works
  • police services

Your vote for me on the Democratic line will be a vote for an improved and cost-efficient Town of Ossining.
